Q1: Overall, how do you think this school year went?

A: I think it was incredible, I had a great time starting a new program in SPED [Special Education], and it’s been really awesome to see the kids grow and it’s been a great year.

Q2: What has been the most accomplished thing for you this year?

A: I have seen West include my kids in the center based resource classrooms more than I think any other high school does. I’ve seen them be involved in plays, in the yearbook, and be in all these different areas. It’s been really rewarding to see them get out there and be loved by this community and be supported by this community.

Q3: How do you think the school will be next year when an additional 400 students are added?

A: I’m excited. As far as from a Special Ed perspective, they’ve really started the groundwork really well for inclusion. I think we have a whole new group of kids that will be able to learn from these kids now that are going to show how including kids with a disability is important and how that’s kind of a standard now. So I’m excited for more kids to be involved in that and kind of learn and grown in that, and be educated in that.

Q4: What are you most looking forward to next year?

A: In my program, we get 10 more kids, so I’m excited to get more kids added to that program. I’m excited to have new teachers coming in and being able to collaborate with some more people and I’m excited to have more peers come in and learn and work with my kids.

Q5: What opportunity did you have this year that you felt was most beneficial?

A: This year is quite different, I came from a different school. It was good, but just to be able to see the amount of inclusion this school does compare to the other schools is incredible. I really think this is the most inclusive high school in the whole district for kids with disability.
