Behind-The-Scenes Look: Olathe West’s First Musical, Cinderella
November 7, 2017
Olathe West’s first musical, Cinderella had its first showing on Nov. 10 and 11. Cinderella was chosen as the first musical for Olathe West because of its classic, family, friendly piece.
“I knew I wanted to do a classic, family, friendly piece. To get the whole community involved. I didn’t want to do anything that was too racy or things people wouldn’t come and see,” said Theatre Instructor Alisha Morris.
Not only did Morris want to incorporate a classic theatre piece, but she also wanted a piece that was flexible for a new school and cast.
“I also wanted to choose a musical that could be flexible, depending on the level of talent that we got at the school since I was coming in blind, and I had no idea who we would have, or what kind of vocal range those kids could sing. So, this was kind of nice in the middle where you only really need at least two really strong actors,” said Morris.
The theatre department had begun the start of the musical in mid-September and continued to work until showing night.
“[We have been working for] about two months, we auditioned mid-September, and we’ve been working really hard ever since,” said Morris.
The musical that the Olathe West theatre department has been working on has a different twist than many other versions that have been seen.
“This version of Cinderella is different than the other versions, there’s a twist at the end of Act I – which I’m not going to tell anybody because they’ll have to come see it!” said Morris.
Cinderella, The Musical will be shown on November 10th and 11th at 7pm. The theatre department is very anxious and excited to be showcasing their talents to a live audience.
