On Friday, Jan. 17, the girls basketball and boys basketball team will travel to Olathe Northwest to start a new chapter in the rivalry between the Owls and the Ravens. The two teams have competed against each other in a variety of sports, and the games have been close between the schools in this highly competitive, but still young rivalry.
Volleyball 2-10

The Owls have gotten good results recently in the rivalry, but overall the Ravens have had the upper hand, especially early in the rivalry, around 2017 to 2022.
The 3-0 win at home on Oct. 15, 2024 provided the Owls with their second win in a row with the other coming on the road on Aug. 22, 2023.
Boys Soccer
Record: 5-2-1

The Ravens have largely fallen short on the pitch. Early success went to the Owls, with four straight victories coming in the first four years of the rivalry, but the Ravens have stormed back, with a 2-1-1 record in the last four seasons. The 1-1 draw on Sept. 17, 2024 was headlined by a first-half goal by sophomore Nick Robinson, but the Owls couldn’t find a goal in the second half.
Football

In this highly competitive matchup throughout the years, the two teams have largely gone back-and-forth. They didn’t face off until 2020, but they have faced off every season since, but 2024.
On Sept. 22, 2023, the Owls came out with a win in their Homecoming game. Sophomore Josh Foland ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns and freshman Cameron Kruse threw for another touchdown, as the Owls cruised to a 27-7 victory.
The last Raven win came in 2022 when a touchdown late in the fourth quarter was the difference. The final was 28-21 with the Ravens coming out on top.
Girls Basketball

In this rarely played rivalry, the Owls are barely ahead 3-2. No team has started a win streak, with both teams trading wins throughout the seasons.
The most recent result came on Jan. 12, 2024, with the Owls coming out on top at home. An interesting tidbit about this matchup, the home team has come out with the win in all of the matchups.
Boys Basketball
Record: 4-3

Most Recent Result: 69-74 Ravens Win
On Jan. 17, the Owls look to avenge last season’s close loss at home to the Ravens. Even though the Owls dropped the game last season they still lead the overall series. The result on the 17th could even up the series however, then next season’s matchup would be for the lead.
The 69-74 defeat last season stopped a two-game win streak from the Owls, which was the longest streak in the series so far.
Softball

The Ravens have overwhelmingly defeated the Owls in Softball. Most of the matchups in this series have been far from close. The Ravens have had a perennial powerhouse in softball, while the Owls are coming onto the scene in softball. Both teams have gone to Lawrence and won State, with the Owls winning in 2023, and the Ravens winning in 2009, 2011 and 2017.

In baseball, the Owls have dominated the Ravens. While winning four in-a-row,the Owls have outscored the Ravens 24-6, headlined by a 11-2 victory in 2022. The most recent victory, a close 2-1 game, was played on April 11, 2024. Junior Ty Miller pitched six innings, while only giving up one run. A single in the third inning was the difference between the two teams, as it scored the Owls second run.
Overall, the Owls have a record of 23-25 against the Ravens for a win percentage of 47.9%. If the Owls come out on top in the girls and boys basketball games on Jan. 17, they can even up the series. Both have traded wins in most of the sports, and each game between the two teams, no matter what sport, is always a competitive affair.
