15 years after the final film, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” hit the theatres, the wizarding world is awakened again for a seven-season series premiering in 2027.
The worldwide beloved franchise will have another adaption as a TV series on April 12, 2023. Every season will follow each book in detail. In contrast to the films, this series will take the time and effort to bring each page to life, without skipping details or changing characters.
With a fresh start of actors, writers and directors, Harry Potter will be widely judged by lifelong fans. An adaptation of the best-selling book series and billion-dollar franchise can be a risky process.
With fans all over the world not wanting to expand or “ruin” the wizarding world and the controversies surrounding author J.K. Rowling, who said herself that she is “very, very involved” in this project, it’s hard to say who will and who won’t tune in for the series.
J.K. Rowling’s involvement has predictably caused a great disturbance in the show’s social approval. Although she’s the original creator and writer of Harry Potter, back in 2019, Rowling made a comment regarding her views on transgender rights, which fans didn’t easily forget.
Though many fans have shown disinterest, many have shown the opposite. With a new golden trio, Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, lots of supporters are giving this new cast the benefit of the doubt, making this soon-to-be series a growing sensation.
A poll held by YouGov.co,UK, shows that 61% of Harry Potter fans in Britain are most likely to watch the show. That’s over 30 million fans, just a fraction of the fan base’s population.
Still, will the show be any good? With original creator Rowling behind the scenes but multiple new faces to not only the series, but the industry, it’s hard to say. If older fans hold onto the films and original actors like Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, they may be less likely to watch the show, no matter the quality or accuracy. But many fans see the potential and community this show will bring to many people across the world.
With a decade of filming, Harry Potter the series season one is expected to air early or mid 2027, on HBO Max.
