Getting bored is inevitable sometimes, but movies can be a cure to this boredom. Whether it be comedy, romance, action, or sci-fi, here are 10 movies to watch that can cure boredom. 

  1. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)

This film is about a high school kid who comes up with a very creative way to avoid going to school. The main character, Ferris, takes the audience through an event filled day off from school. This comedy can keep you drawn in, from the very beginning, always wondering what’s coming next, and if he will get caught. You can rent this on Amazon Prime for $3.99. 

  1. Adventures in Babysitting (1987)

This movie takes place in the 80s in Chicago. A group of kids, being watched by a babysitter, experience wild adventures during the course of the evening when a supposedly quiet night takes some unexpected turns. This comedy/action movie will surely keep you drawn into the characters, and the crazy places they end up. This Can be streamed on Disney Plus. 

  1. Soul Surfer (2011)

“Soul Surfer” is about a young surfer girl living and growing up in Hawaii. Out with her friends one day, a shark attack leaves her in a position where she may never surf again. Instead of giving up, the protagonist Bethany chooses to turn her injury into a positive, and advocates for people in her position to chase their dreams. You can watch this movie on Netflix. 

  1. Five Feet Apart (2019)

This film follows two people, both diagnosed with a genetic disorder. The tension between these two characters, Stella and Will, only grows through time, and starting apart from each other is harder than ever. This movie will suck you in with the heartwarming story of friendship and love; putting someone else’s needs before your own. This film can be streamed on Netflix. 

  1. Jumanji (1995)

Jumanji is a movie where the games you play come to life. Two siblings, Jude and Peter, find the game Jumanji, and decide to play, thinking nothing of it. As the game continues however, the adventures become real, and the only way for things to go back to normal is if the game is won. This adventure-filled film will keep you on your toes for until the very end, always wanting to know what will come out of the game next. You can watch this on Amazon prime Video. 

  1. Forrest Gump (1994)

This movie follows the disadvantages of Forrest Gump, as he manages the trials life has to offer him. Thanks to his mother, Forrest lives his life to the fullest. The one person Forrest cares about the most, is his childhood love, which may also be the hardest to save. From the beginning this film draws you in with the loveable characters, and a storyline that can give you characters to cheer for. This can be played on Netflix. 

  1. Turner and Hooch (1989) 

This comedy/crime movie follows the police officer Turner, who is surprised to learn he has to take care of a recent victim’s dog. This large dog, Hooch, proves to be very problematic for Turner, tearing up everything in sight, from couches to shoes to even cars. The unlikely bond they form with each other, and the comical aspects of how angry Turner gets, will keep you watching until the very end. You can stream this on Disney Plus. 

  1. Fantastic Mr. Fox (2019)

The film “Fantastic Mr. Fox” follows Mr. Fox breaks a promise and decides to raid the human neighbors’ farm, putting not only his life at risk but the lives of his family as well. After the farmers force Mr. Fox and his family deep underground, Mr. Fox has to be clever to rise above the challenge he is faced with. This fun family comedy movie keeps you guessing and creates opportunities to think of ways to outmaneuver the farmers yourself. 

  1. The Sandlot (1993)

This classic movie follows the main character ‘Smalls’ as he moves to a new neighborhood. Over the summer, he makes friends and begins to play baseball on the sandlot every day. Trouble occurs when Smalls borrows a baseball from his stepdad and gets hit over a fence. Little does Smalls know that the ball is more valuable than he could have imagined. This coming-of-age movie is nice to watch again from time to time, thinking about what you used to do as kids during summers. You can watch this on STARZ video. 

  1. Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

As arguably one of the best movies of 2022, this film is a sequel to the original “Top Gun” movie. The plot however, makes it so that you don’t have to watch the first one, to enjoy the second. In this movie, the main character Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell is tasked with training a fighter pilot squadron to defeat a secret uranium project. There are some moments in this film, like those of flying the jets and those of fighting in the air, that make you hold your breath in suspense, making this the perfect movie to cure boredom.
