Makayla Rivera – Girls Wrestling

“I started wrestling as a freshman with a group of friends to just do something new. And wrestling had just been sanctioned in Kansas so it was new for everyone. It took me a while for me to get out of my comfort zone to feel 100% comfortable with the sport. Both coaches and athletes were getting used to the sport and as time passed it became natural. I spent numerous days working to get better and to try to become my best self. Even though I had my bad days, I still continued on with the sport, and I’m glad I did. I’m sad that I must leave but I know that I’m soon going to be starting something better for myself. I’m going to miss my teammates and my coach and all the memories that we made throughout the years. I’m going to miss the fun practices where we just play games and the practice that made me want to quit. Because all those things made me the great athlete that I am today.”
