The boys and girls basketball teams held scrimmages on Monday, pitting their varsity teams against the JV teams and the C teams against the D teams.

Both teams are optimistic for the coming seasons, hoping to improve from last year. Last year, the boys varsity had a record of 12-10 while the girls varsity had a record of 7-12.

“I hope that we can make it to state and get a good run there,” said senior forward Austin Hashagen.

The girls team has a new head coach this year, Rick Rhoades. Rhoades coached the varsity girls team at Blue Valley Southwest, whos record last season was 18-7. Many of the girls are also returning varsity players for a third year in a row, a unique feat for the team.

I’m expecting good things from our team this year

“There was a lot of games last year that we would lose by five points or it would come down to a play at the end of the game,” junior forward Macy Glover said. “I think those games, we are going to come out on top this year.” The boys and girls team will play their first games today in a tournament hosted by Hays High School.

“I’m expecting good things from our team this year,” said junior shooting guard Bailey Collar. “I think that hopefully, we will get a couple more wins under our belt.”
