The movement started with the Golden Globes that had notable pins being worn by celebrities with the words “ICE Out” and “BeGood.”
The pins showcased the protesting efforts of the public after what occurred with Renee Good on January 7 when an ICE agent shot and killed her while she was in her vehicle. Before and after this incident, people have been protesting the actions of ICE agents and their questionable use of force toward the public.
According to an interview that Mark Ruffalo gave during the Golden Globes, he expressed his concern for what took place with the ICE killing of Renee Good. He referenced the “BeGood” pin on his lapel.
“This is for Renee Nicole Good, who was murdered,” Ruffalo said.
The Grammys also showed celebrities speaking against the wrongful actions of ICE with pins. Notable people included Billie Eilish, Justin and Hailey Bieber and Justin Vernon.
Speeches that centered around ICE’s actions and Trump promoting these actions included artists like Olivia Dean, who expressed her story about being a granddaughter of an immigrant, and Billie Eilish, who brought up how no one is illegal on stolen land.
One notable speech was by Bad Bunny, expressing his feelings about Trump’s immigration efforts.
“Before I say thanks to God, I’m gonna say: ICE Out,” Bad Bunny said. “We’re not savages, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans.”
Bad Bunny not only made history by winning the Best Album of the year–becoming the first artist to win this award with an album sung entirely in Spanish–but also performed the halftime show at the Superbowl this year.
The awards season now moves to the Oscars as audiences will tune in to see which celebrities wear the “ICE Out” pins and who will speak out against ICE’s actions.
