The dance team has a new field show for the year called “The Heist,” in which dancers maneuver around band members to steal a necklace placed upon a podium.

“Every year we find out the next season’s show and it just depends on what the coaches and directors decide to do,” junior dance team member Anisa Reyna said. “They do this whole surprise thing to surprise everybody.”

The whole plot of “The Heist” are the band performers and dancers, each trying to get the diamond necklace off the stage on the field.

“This jewel necklace is going around, the dance team has it and then it kinda goes throughout the band and it’s just like dance team vs band, it’s pretty cool,” Reyna said.

Reyna is the member in the show that goes up onto the podium and holds up the necklace when the show concludes.

“It was so fun, it’s a little nerve wracking because you just don’t know how the show is going to go,” Reyna said. “Especially first time performances sometimes don’t go as planned but it was fun and cool to show everyone, especially at the football game.”

The first performance at the varsity football game against Lawrence Free State was where the show was first unveiled.

“It went well, we don’t have the full show done yet but I think the dance team definitely was happy about it and our next practice we all talked about it and how fun it was,” Reyna said.

Different from years past, this performance has a more developed storyline.

“I definitely think this is my favorite one so far,” Reyna said. “There’s more of a storyline to it this year and the music is really fun.”

Dance and band will perform “The Heist” at each home football game and at their competitions for the 2023-24 school year as well.
